Autumn Harvest - Pumpkins

Posted by
Jason Politte (Conway, AR, United States) on 19 October 2012 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Our house got broken into and burgled yesterday, so I probably won't get around to doing much commenting. Will try to catch up over the weekend.

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

Lovely warm colours and light, Jason. That is distressing news about the break-in. Hope you can recover anything that was taken.

19 Oct 2012 7:10am

@Stephen: Thanks Stephen - more than likely we won't recover anything as is most often the case with these types of things, but we can hope.

Nicole from Aix en Provence, France

Bientôt halloween !

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

I really hope they catch the bastards! When they get hung, drawn and quartered in your town square, do take some shots. Seriously, you must be be feeling so sick, the invasion of privacy is way more shocking than the loss of the possessions

19 Oct 2012 7:44am

@CElliottUK: You and me both, Chris. Unfortunately, they'd probably be out walking the streets again in an hour. The invasion and the loss of the sentimental stuff is the worst part of it all.

tataray from france, France

Simplement superbe... ))

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Nice shot Jason.
How awful Jason, I'm with Chris on the invasion of your privacy, your home is supposed to be a sanctuary for you and your family. I hope you and Karen are ok.

19 Oct 2012 8:40am

@Doug: Thanks Doug. We were both gone at the time, but Kaylee-dog was here. We were relieved that she was OK.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

So sorry to hear that news Jason, hope the place hasn't been messed up too much. Had to clean up at my father's a few weeks ago when he got burgled, it's a dreadful feeling.
Another wonderful well coloured shot today.

19 Oct 2012 9:11am

@Curly: Thanks, Curly - it is a dreadful feeling to know someone's been rifling through the house and just taking what they want. We're making it a whole lot more difficult for anybody that wants to try it again though.

Melocoton from Salamanca, Spain

fantastic shot, great ligth, bravo

@Tede: Merci beaucoup, Tede.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Sorry to hear about being burglarized. That is terrible! I hope that you and Karen are holding up well. Looks like a great pumpkin patch here, Charlie Brown!

19 Oct 2012 1:04pm

@Steven: Thanks much, Steven - our way of holding up is adding extra security to the house, so that's what we've been doing.

Heinz from Hamm, Germany

Jason, das Foto ist Hervorragend. Die Nachricht mit dem Einbruch ist nicht so schön.

19 Oct 2012 1:51pm

@Heinz: Vielen Dank Heinz. Ja, es war eine unangenehme Erfahrung, vor allem für meine Frau, entdeckt, dass wir Burgalarized gewesen war.

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

Great framing and light !

Ruthiebear from Titusville, NJ, United States

I am so sorry about your house. It must be a horrible, violated feeling. I hope you and your wife are safe and not too much damage and loss. Lovely composition in this image.

19 Oct 2012 5:54pm

@Ruthiebear: Thanks Ruthie. It is a horrible feeling - the only thing we can do is increase security so that it's not so easy for them next time. Unfortunately, we did lose several things that were worth quite a bit in monetary and sentimental value.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

Sorry to hear about your breakin Jason! It happened to me about 15 years ago and I know exactly what you are going through! ;-)

19 Oct 2012 6:06pm

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks Eric. Yeah, this is the first time either of us have ever really been a "victim." It's not very pleasant.

gerard1948 from Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Very nice photo, pumpkins are superb. I hope for you that it is not too serious burglary.
Good evening.

19 Oct 2012 7:08pm

@gerard1948: Thanks Gerard - it was bad enough but could've been much worse.

Amir Goharshahi ( Ma$ter Pics ) from Mashhad, Iran

@Steve Rice: Thanks much, Steve.

Baldwin from Venezuela

I hope the damage on your home is not too serious ... Great shot !!! Light and colors are beautiful ...

19 Oct 2012 10:18pm

@Baldwin: Thanks Baldwin - going to have to have some repair work done on the house in addition to the losses.

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

Beautiful image of these pumpkins. I love the processing. I am so sorry about your house. That is such an invasion of one's being. I hope that it isn't too messed up.

19 Oct 2012 10:54pm

@Elaine Hancock: Thanks Elaine - it's messed up enough, but it could have been much worse.

Benoît Caurette from Angoulême, France

Nice composition.

Othersideblue from Kerman, Iran

I'm sorry to read the bad news here I really wish yo good luck to catch and arrest them and recover your things and feel good.

This is such a beautiful capture here with great color tone.

20 Oct 2012 5:39am

@Othersideblue: Thank you very much - I hope they're caught too, but more than likely they won't be given past history of these types of events.

Kristina from Kyiv, Ukraine

Sorry to hear about your house, Jason. I love this shot. It looks like an acrylic painting to me...low contrast?

20 Oct 2012 10:31am

@Kristina: Thanks for the sentiments, Kristina. This is actually an HDR as have been all of the photographs that I posted for this week, so that's why the details were retained in the shadows like that. Thanks again!

Hiro from Kyoto, Japan

Ah, you're ready for Halloween !

20 Oct 2012 11:35am

Joyce from Montana, United States

Rats! I'm sorry to hear that Jason! Hope your losses are small, and the sense of invasion recovered from fast.

This image is a typical uniquely Jason shot. Soft tones and good POV and comp that highlights the bulky chubby lines.

20 Oct 2012 4:58pm

@Joyce: Losses are a few thousand, but it could've been a lot worse. The psychological effects are the worst part, but that's spurred us on to enhance the security measures in our house. Thank you very much, Joyce.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

I really love the tone and brghtness of these images, Jason. Really unique! Beautiful composition ;-)

Beautiful textures and fall colors ~ very attractive photo; sorry to hear about your break-in.

22 Oct 2012 9:12pm

franz from Baden, Austria

how awful! as you and others have stated, the emotional hurt is the bad thing - imagining some creep prowling around YOUR home and touching YOUR things ... i'm really sorry and can only wish you'll be spared such experiences in future!
that said, let me compliment you on a very appealing autumnal image. my question - are these edible pumpkins ?!?

23 Oct 2012 2:38pm

@franz: I sure hope we don't have to go through anything like it again either, Franz. To ensure that we don't have to, we're beefing up security. I'm not sure if these are the kind one can make pumpkin pie out of or not. Most people use them for decoration though.

Rick from Toronto, Canada

I'm so sorry about that invasion of your space ! I've been through that more than once, and it stings and lingers... my best thoughts to you and Karen. (nice Autumn shot, too)

23 Oct 2012 9:45pm

@Rick: Thank you, Rick. I can't imagine having to deal with this type of thing multiple times.
